Yala National Park

Yala National Park, on Sri Lanka's south-east coast, is one of the island's best-known wildlife parks and is known for its leopards.

About Yala National Park

The park mixes scrub, grassland, lagoons and coast, so it supports leopards, elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, water buffalo and many birds. Safaris are done by jeep with a park driver and tracker.

Animals are wild, so no sighting can be guaranteed. Early morning and late afternoon are the best times. The park has an annual closure period, so dates should be confirmed in advance.

Best time to visit

The dry season is generally best for wildlife, when animals gather around water. We confirm park opening dates when planning.
